The Town celebrates Juneteenth, an annual holiday recognizing the date when some of the last enslaved people in the Confederacy were notified of their freedom following the Civil War.
The bike parade is open to all kids, and those young at heart that wish to decorate their bike, scooter, wagon or stroller. The parade follows a Kensington Volunteer Fire Department truck through the streets of Kensington. Sponsored by Mark Hudson of McEnearney Associate Realtors.

For more than a decade, MAA has organized one of the largest local art shows in the DC area — the annual Paint the Town Labor Day Show. The annual show takes place over three-day holiday weekend at the historic Kensington Armory, with thousands of visitors passing through the doors to see and purchase art. The variety of art includes: watercolor, acrylic, oil, pastel, mixed media and sculpture.
Enjoy marching bands, equestrian show groups, dance groups, floats and ambassadors. The parade starts at St. Paul Park and ends at the grandstand next to Noyes Children’s Library. As the parade moves through town, Armory Avenue comes alive with food trucks, vendors and activities. The popular Kensington Train Show features model trains and fun for all ages. The event takes place at Kensington Town Hall, 3710 Mitchell St., Kensington MD. Sponsored by the Ditto Group of Long & Foster Real Estate and the Town of Kensington.
Since 1994, the Kensington 8K Race has been a favorite DC area fall race – a fun, fast event with beauty, challenge, and excitement. Howard Avenue Park comes to life with thousands of tiny lights. Come out for the lighting ceremony the first weekend in December and return every night throughout the month to enjoy the magic of the season.
Kick off the holiday season on Kensington Antique Row. Stores will be open, providing refreshments, live music and holiday cheer.
The Town’s annual Christmas Tree Lighting is held in December. The Kensington Volunteer Fire Department (KVFD) bring Santa Claus and music and treats will be provided for all.
