January 2020 – From the Mayor

The annual Menorah Lighting was once again a wonderful celebration to the start of Hanukkah, and I want to thank Jenn Beaudet, Jon and Susan Gerson, Ann Lichter, Anna Sachs, and Salo and Lisa Zelermyer for organizing the event. I would also like to thank Temple Emanuel Cantor, Lindsay Kanter, who lead the crowd in song and Donut King for their contribution.

The Town also hosted our first Caroling Around the Fountain at Flynn Park, and I would like to thank the Mark Hudson Group for organizing the event.

I would also like to thank Residents Claudia Gaffey and Chris Kohl for keeping the Town tidy collecting the blown trash during their daily walks.

The Town continues to see interest with redevelopment opportunities as commercial properties come available. I strongly encourage Residents to stay connected with the Town and projects reviewed by the Development Review Board (DRB). All meetings are open to the public and proposed projects are listed on our website: https://tok.md.gov/redevelopment/. If you have any comments or questions about a specific project, please send them to Mayor.Council@tok.md.gov. Council Members Darin Bartram and Conor Crimmins, Co-Chairs of the DRB, are always happy to discuss proposed projects.

How Does the Development Process Work . . . the Town is planning to schedule a follow-up to last years Design & Review workshop, which is a great opportunity to learn about the development and planning process and ask questions of the County’s Planning staff. We will provide additional information within a future Around Town Journal.

Another great way to familiarize yourself with the redevelopment process is to review the 2012 Kensington and Vicinity Sector Plan: https://montgomeryplanning.org/planning/communities/area-2/kensington/kensington-sector-plan. The Sector Plan is a blueprint as to how and what may develop within our Town.
