The Town celebrates Juneteenth, an annual holiday recognizing the date when some of the last enslaved people in the Confederacy were notified of their freedom following the Civil War.
The bike parade is open to all kids, and those young at heart that wish to decorate their bike, scooter, wagon or stroller. The parade follows a Kensington Volunteer Fire Department truck through the streets of Kensington. Sponsored by Mark Hudson of McEnearney Associate Realtors.
The Kensington Volunteer Fire Department presents the Summer 2022 “Movies in the Park,” featuring a variety of movies. Fun & Games begin at 7PM, with refreshments available, and weather permitting, the movie begins at dusk. Follow KVFD Facebook for updates.

For more than a decade, MAA has organized one of the largest local art shows in the DC area — the annual Paint the Town Labor Day Show. The annual show takes place over three-day holiday weekend at the historic Kensington Armory, with thousands of visitors passing through the doors to see and purchase art. The variety of art includes: watercolor, acrylic, oil, pastel, mixed media and sculpture. Karen Merkin painted the flags to the rights. Visit MontgomeryArt.org and click Shows & Events.

Since 1994, the Kensington 8K Race has been a favorite DC area fall race – a fun, fast event with beauty, challenge, and excitement. Known throughout the DC Area as a true community race – parents and kids cheering on each other and welcomed visitors running through our Town and Rock Creek Park. The Town’s annual Christmas Tree Lighting is held in December. The Kensington Volunteer Fire Department (KVFD) bring Santa Claus and music and treats will be provided for all.
