Mark your calendars! Montgomery Art Association and the Town of Kensington present the 2019 Kensington “Paint the Town” Labor Day Weekend Art Show & Plein Air Competition! Works of local artists will be on display and for sale throughout the Labor Day Weekend, shown in conjunction with the Kensington Labor Day Parade and Festival on Monday, September 2.
There is something for everyone: watercolor, acrylic, oil, pastel, mixed media and sculpture.
Art Show • All three days
For more than a decade, MAA has organized one of the largest local art shows in the DC area — the annual Paint the Town Labor Day Show. The annual show takes place over three-day holiday weekend at the historic Kensington Armory, with thousands of visitors passing through the doors to see and purchase art. The variety of art includes: watercolor, acrylic, oil, pastel, mixed media and sculpture. Artwork will be judged and prizes will be awarded in six categories. The Bertha Clum Award will be given to the overall best in show, which brings a $500 prize. This award went to Jennifer Beaudet in 2018 for her watercolor of the Kensington Train Station.
Plein Air Competition • Saturday, August 31, 2019 • 7am-3pm
The Plein Air Event competition is an open show within the main show with separate competitions for youths and adults. Artwork will be judged and on display and if desired, available for sale through Monday, September 2. Award winners will be recognized at the Saturday evening Awards Reception.
