What is the National Register of Historic Places?

Why should you know about it?

The Kensington Historic District was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980!  It was placed under the protection of the Montgomery County Master Plan for Historic Preservation in 1986.

Guest Speaker: J. Paul Loether, National Register Chief and Keeper of the National Register of Historic Places.  Mr. Loether will describe what the National Register is; why it was created; what it does and does not do (including common misconceptions); and provide some interesting/unusual examples of a range of property types listed or determined eligible for listing on the Register.  His talk will be enhanced with powerpoint slides.  Question and answer session will follow.
