It’s Women’s History Month AND Francophonie month: voilà the perfect opportunity to celebrate both!
Join us on Thursday, March 14 for this exclusive event with French author Julia Malye to discuss Pelican Girls (Harper Collins, March 2024). This stunning début novel captures the never-before-told journey of the Baleine Brides: a ship full of young women plucked from a Paris asylum and sent to marry settlers in North America’s rough Louisiana Territory.
The author will be in conversation with Sarah Diligenti the Executive Director of the Alliance Française of Washington, DC. This event is part of the DC Francophonie Festival and is co-produced by the Alliance Française of Washington, DC with support from Villa Abertine. The event will be conducted in English.

Doors will open at 6:30pm. A welcome glass of wine is included with your ticket.
Book Signing:
The event will be followed by a book signing. Copies of Pelican Girls will be available for purchase at the event and may also be purchased in advance here. The original French book, Louisiane, may be purchased through Bonjour Books prior to the event.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
JULIA MALYE is the author of three novels published in France and works as a translator for Les Belles Lettres publisher. At the age of twenty-one, she moved to the United States to study fiction writing and graduated from Oregon State University’s MFA program in 2017. Since 2015, she’s taught creative writing to hundreds of students at Oregon State University, and at La Sorbonne Nouvelle University and Sciences Po Paris.
