COVID-19 – Town Operational Updates – March 23, 2020

Dear Residents and Business Community:
In accordance with Governor Hogan’s Executive Order this morning to help stop the spread of COVID-19 by closing all nonessential businesses, organizations, establishments and facilities within Maryland, the Town will be taking the following measures:
Town Operating Hours
The Town’s operational hours will be modified to 9:00 am – 3:00 pm (Monday – Friday), effective Tuesday, March 24, 2020 until the emergency Executive Order is revoked by Governor Hogan. While Town Hall will remain closed to public access during this time, the Town staff will still be available to answer any concerns or questions by calling 301-949-2424, sending a Service Request, or by emailing a staff member directly. Any changes to the Town’s modified operational hours will be provided through our email notification system and on the Town’s website.
Town Collection Services (Trash, Brush, and Recycling)
We have been advised by our collections contractor, Ecology Services, that they are operating with a reduced staff and have asked that the Town temporarily suspend bulk collections effective immediately. Bulk collection items scheduled for Tuesday, March 24, 2020 will not be collected and the Town will contact residents directly that have already requested the service.
The Town may need to amend our regular collection schedule in the coming weeks in an effort to maintain consistent trash collection, which may suspend brush (yard waste) and recycling collections temporarily. We will continue to provide information as necessary through our email notification system and our website.
Town Parks
The Town will be removing the basketball rims from all backboards on public property within the corporate limits of the Town of Kensington to further prevent large gatherings. While our Parks will remain open, we ask that park visitors refrain from using playground equipment and avoid contact with surfaces that are frequently touched by other people and from participating in activities involving physical contact or sharing of equipment. This policy is at the recommendation of Montgomery Parks.
WSSC - Water
WSSC has asked that we remind everyone to refrain from disposing disinfecting wipes into the toilet, as this may cause unnecessary blockages. Additional information pertaining to WSSC’s COVID-19 response may be found here.
Kensington Restaurants – Takeout and Delivery Options
We continue to update our Restaurant Takeout and Delivery Guide and encourage everyone to support our local businesses during these uncertain times.
Small Business Resource information may be found at the following links:
*Frankly Pizza is temporarily closed while they develop their online ordering application.
Montgomery County
Montgomery County continues to hold weekly conference calls updating local municipalities with regard to COVID-19. Our next scheduled call is Thursday afternoon and we will provide any imperative information back to the community. A list of Montgomery County closures may be found here.
